Happy Valentine's Day, nerds.  Nit Picket Podcast #55.

It's the holiday of love and what better way to celebrate than by listening to two hardcore movie nerds countdown their top 5 date movies?  This week, Aaron and I review the new John Travolta action film, From Paris With Love, and the ski lift thriller, Frozen.  In the wide world of trailers we discuss Toy Story 3 and the first full length peak at M. Night Shyamalan's adaptation of Nickleodeon's, The Last Airbender.  Oh yeah, and we also talk about that one show, Lost.  That island sure is mysterious!

Nice one guys, I don't know how I would have gone about making a list like this one. I remember the episode of filmspotting you mentioned and I would defenetly choose The Box over something uber cheesy and girly like Dirty Dancing(maybe even Antichrist would make a better date lol) it was no Donnie Darko but was still quite enjoyable.
few films I would unclude-As good as it gets, Sideways,Forrest Gump

I'm always reluctant to mention Filmspotting on the podcast because if I listened to this show and THEN listened to Filmspotting, I'd never come back!

Yeah, THE BOX or a DONNIE DARKO really are great date flicks. Anything confounding, confusing, or terrible make great date flicks. Thanks for listening, Annetta! I always enjoy hearing from a regular listener.

Hey guys! Great episode. LOL the signoff! Saw "From Paris With Love" tonight and had a pretty great time. It was one of those flicks where if Travolta isn't talking or there isn't cool action, I'm bored. Due to the 3 day President's Day weekend, I'll probably check out "The Wolfman" and definitely NOT "Percy Jackson" and "Valentine's Day." Hopefully in the coming weeks I'll be able to check out "Terribly Happy" because I do live in the Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley area. Once again, great show!

Way to go, Jordan. Don't get suckered into seeing VALENTINE'S DAY unless it's with a girl on a date (or if your mother asks you). I don't know why it is but I'm casually optimistic about PERCY JACKSON despite it having the worst title ever. I'll be seeing WOLFMAN this Sunday hopefully.

      Thanks for the comment, Jordan.

Hey guys, great podcast as always. I cannot believe you missed out Tommy Wisseaus The Room on the list. That would make a great movie for a first date lol.
I liked your review of lost much more this time. But I really recommend digging around on the forums to try and figure out stuff before they happen if you got the time. It makes the show much more fun to watch.

THE ROOM was on my list but got bumped due to the "softcore" nature of the film. It can get weird when you bust that movie out on a first date!

I'm glad you enjoyed our LOST discussion. Like you, Aaron and I adore LOST and even when we piss and moan about the island it's still more entertaining and badass than almost everything else on television.

      Thanks for you support, Omar.

Hey, great podcast and I can't help but think that this would have been useful to Travis Bickle on his date with the Cybill Shepherd character in Taxi Driver. Anyway, here's my list

    01 The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
    02 The Apartment
    03 Manhattan
    04 Chungking Express
    05 Bringing Up Baby

Honorable Mentions: City Lights, Shaun of the Dead, His Girl Friday, The Lady Eve, Notorious (1946), Magnificent Obsession, An American in Paris, The Red Shoes, The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), Rio Bravo, Dazed and Confused and Bande a Part.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Plan 9 from Outer Space could be a good replacement for The Room in that same category of movies, but it doesn't have the awful sex scenes. Also Buried looks like a less-interesting take on The Vanishing and the whole buried alive idea has kind of been play out fully since Kill Bill did it's homage scene to those movies. As for The Last Airbender, I am still a Xiaolin Showdown fan and I also think that the whole Avatar story is too epic and sweeping for a two-hour movie, but I admit it looks pretty cool which it has to be to make Dev Patel look as awesome as he does in that trailer. I really like the guy, but he did seem like an odd choice at first as did Aasif Mandvi who I still only picture as a Daily Show correspondent.

Hey guys. If you haven't seen WOLFMAN yet, don't. I absolutely hated it. There is some kind of funny gore, in the similar vain of DRAG ME TO HELL, but Del Toro is god-awful. Maybe see it just to see it, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

Good to know, Jordan. I'm seeing it tomorrow and I'm interested to see how it'll play out for me. I'm also seeing PERCY JACKSON which I just found out is directed by Chris Columbus director of JINGLE ALL THE WAY, aka one of the greatest films ever made. Feelin' that sarcasm?
