oh man I can't believe that I havent seen Magnolia yet!I've seen the ending online and it was so crazy and outlandish that it was just awesome! I mean the dvd has been on my tv for a while now but I just havent gotten myself to watch it.Its one of the two P.T. Anderson films that I havent seen yet (the other is Hard Eight but I cant find it anywhere near me)and I love his films. Boogie Nights is my second favorite of his (I really need to see it again after hearing your thoughts on it Leland.)but There Will Be Blood is just about perfect to me in every way. Anyways, whats your guy's thoughts on Punch-Drunk Love? I liked it much more the second time I saw it but when I watch it I feel like its a dream movie where it just feels like your watching a dream taking place on screen. I think the way it was directed helps me think of it that way. But enough of my rambling what do you think of it?

I'm curious as to what you'll think of Magnolia...I personally absolutely LOVE it! I also really, really enjoy Punch-Drunk Love...P.T. Anderson seems to be one of those directors that just hasn't made a bad film. And There Will Be Blood is probably my favorite film of the past 5 years.
If I ranked them it'd probably be:
      1. Magnolia
      2. There Will Be Blood
      3. Boogie Nights
      4. Punch Drunk Love
      5. Hard Eight

      thanks for listening!!!

WHAT!?! i loved There Will Be Blood as well but it is my number 2 of 2007 mostly because of the shitty ass score and sadily not near one of the best of the decade again because of the score and I'm shock you said best of the last 5 years do you seriously think it's better than Synecdoche, New York or Babel. my number 1 and 2 of the decade respectfully

I take that back....the second best movie in 5 years. Synecdoche is probably number one but I liked Babel a lot but I think there's a lot of films I'd prefer over it. Synecdoche is going to become a masterpiece though over time...just like I think Zodiac and There Will Be Blood in ten years will be looked back upon as masterpieces.

Yeah Babel was very good but there were better that came out in 2007 in my opinion. Zodiac, I will agree, is a very underrated masterpiece. Now I saw Synechdoche, New York the other day and I will say that I really liked it but I didn't love it. I think that, because I know I didn't fully understand it the first time I saw it, and I would like to see it again but I dont know if I would understand it any more than the first time. Although if I saw it in a theatre then I would have missed a lot because I caught a lot of things from rewinding the dvd MANY times.

I completely agree with you that P.T. Anderson has never made a bad film yet (exlcuding the two I mentioned). He is probably in my top 5 favorite directors with Stanley Kubrick at numero uno. Also I would say that There Will Be Blood is my favorite film of the past 9 years, that movie was a masterpiece and the ending just might be my favorite ending of all time (South Park even spoofed it). It would be 10 years but only one film could keep it back and that is Eyes Wide Shut. I've heard its great and from Kubrick's track record it cant be ignored by me but I just havent seen it! Oh and Dylan how could you say that There Will Be Blood's score sucked? That opening scene with the shot of the mountains and the music starts and it just keeps getting louder and louder; that scene gave me chills. That and I saw it in the theatres, even better!

exactly the score keeps getting louder it's starts at this irritating low buzzing like sound then grows to a really irritating loud buzzing and when Daniel is carrying HW and running after the blast that cuases HW to go deaf the music is just terrible and loud it's a great film with the worst score i;ve ever heard aside from the score for Tell No One

You know, I love THERE WILL BE BLOOD and I think it's going to be P.T. Anderson's most enduring film. However, as Aaron and I discuss on last week's podcast, there is a big difference between best and favorite. My order of PT Anderson favs?

      1. Boogie Nights (the firecrack sequence in the end!? John C. Riley does magic in the end?!)
      2. There Will Be Blood
      3. Magnolia
      4. Punch Drunk Love

I apologize to all these films for ranking them as I think all of them are great and love each of them for different reason.

Punch Drunk Love is a wonderful film. I love how the movie just washes over you with it's beautiful score and gorgeous images. My favorite moment in the film is after dinner when the two main characters on walking back to the car and the music swells and the lights from the used car lot sparkle and look gorgeous. Somehow PT Anderson turned people walking in front of a used car lot into a beautiful moment.

Thanks for the comment. Aaron and I practically look for excuses to talk about PT Anderson.

I think that if Punch Drunk Love didnt have the gorgeous dream-like looking scenes and its great music, it would just be a bare-bones romatic-drama with great dialogue. But all those apects that I mentioned just make it so much better! Its been a while since I've seen it but I really like the scene where Adam Sandler and Luis Guzman are at the grocery store and they are shopping for pudding packs, I think. The reason I remember it is because the way Adam Sandler acted made the scene just evoke hopeless ambition where possibly winning plane travel miles from buying those pudding packs almost made his life worth living, before he met Emily Watson's character.

I've been kind of MIA around here but a PT Anderson discussion is really the fastest way to get me back here. I really don't think I can even rank his movies. I've tried plenty of times but I always find myself second guessing whatever I end up picking. Punch Drunk Love is definitely the one I've watched the most because I can put it on anytime and it always makes me happy. The other movies are all a lot tougher to watch but definitely worth it.

I could think of only character who would make for a good marriage with me: "A Blind Girl" from City Lights. She won't care about what I look like, and she's willing to marry the unemployed. It's the perfect match!

i enjoyed your broadcast alot, it was funny for a variety of reasons. one being the intentional funny jokes and two being your guys back and forth banter and the fact that leland is so meticulously-to the point of ridiculousness- detailed and into his cinematic references. (like listening to dwight shrute)

great stuff guys and yeah Arron Natalie playing sam would be my number one as well
