The top 3 for March 25th, 2009

Yet another happy Tuesday!  It was a long weekend and Monday was even longer but comic day is within my grasp and makes everything better!  I've spent the last couple days shotgunning season one of HBO's Rome, and I have to say, it's even better than I expected.  I had heard so many great things and I still wasn't prepared for all it's awesomeness.  One episode even has a dead body raft!  Totally, Tales of the Black Freighter!  Here's the top 3 books I'm most excited about for Wednesday, March 25th, 2009.

Umbrella Academy Dallas #5 (OF 6)
Written by Gerard Way
Art by Gabriel Ba'

I attempt to put something that isn't mainstream Marvel or DC superhero stuff into my top 3 every single week.  If I were to go back and check, I'm pretty sure I've picked Umbrella Academy every single week it hits the stands.  It's that good.  It's unique, funny, and Gabriel Ba's artwork is absolutely beautiful.  It's very Mike Mignola.  Stop being a douche and making fun of My Chemical Romance.  Read this.

New Avengers #51
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Pencils by Billy Tan

Do you know why I'm relatively looking forward to this new issue of New Avengers?   Because it appears to have nothing to do with Secret Invasion or Dark Reign.  Talk about event fatigue.  I felt like I haven't had fun reading any of these Avengers titles in a while and I'm hoping this could be the shot of adrenaline I've been looking for.

DC Showcase presents Ambush Bug Vol. 1

Man, do I love DC Showcases.  If you didn't already know, DC Showcases and Marvel Essentials are big black-and-white phonebook reprints of old classic comics.  They're typically about four to five hundred pages each and will cost you around 10 bucks.  I love these fat books.  It's a great way to catch up on DC continuity  and also get some comics history for a cheap price.  I've never read a single page of Ambush Bug but I'm willing to pick this up and see what it's all about.  I believe he's somewhat of a Howard the Duck type funny character?  Maybe it will suck, maybe it will be awesome.

One more day true believers.
