The top 3 for Feb. 18th, 2009

Yo dudes - Leland here.

Could I be any lazier about updating the site these last 2 weeks?!  Probably, but I'm back and hitting the ground running in the days leading up to my 21st birthday, this Sunday.  Today I watched the 1995 film, Kids, for the first time today and it was just as fucked up as I had always heard.  It's a pretty powerful and effective piece of cinema that I definitely didn't enjoy - but I'm glad I saw it.  Here's the top 3 for Wednesday, February 18th, 2009.

Dynamo 5 #0
Written by Jay Faerber
Art and Cover by Mahmud A. Asrar and Ron Riley

If you love superhero comics and you aren't reading Dynamo 5 now is the perfect chance to jump on board.  This zero issue is only 99 cents and will catch you up on everything you need to know about the coolest super hero book on the stands.  Dynamo 5 is about a group of teenagers who are all the illegitimate children of a Superman type character.  However, every one his kids ended up with only one of his powers.  All the kids meet and team up.  Corny?  Maybe.  Classic comics?  Yes.  This book is really classic and fun super hero work that feels like 2009 but isn't hip to the point  that it's annoying.   The artwork is consistently clean and crisp. This book roolz.

Trinity #38
Written by Kurt Busiek and Fabian Nicieza
Art by more people that I'd like to list

Trinity isn't that great of a book.  When I first picked up an issue of DC's newest weekly series, Trinity, I was expecting a book about Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman kicking ass and taking names.  DC's 3 most powerful heroes together in one book.  However, what this book ended up being is a multi-dimensional-DC- confusing-cluster-fuck that has absolutely nothing for me to connect with.  The scope of the series is so huge and so epic that a lot of interesting characters and ideas get thrown by the wayside to tell a huge confusing story about characters I don't know.  I would much prefer a straight forward Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman story than the Multi Verse DC stuff that keeps me at arms length.  I'd skip this issue.

Dark Avengers #2
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Pencils by Mike Deodato

Dark Avengers is Thunderbolts with a new paint job.  I'm ok with that.  I really think Secret Invasion overall ended up being a little goofy and it immediately led into a much more interesting event for the Marvel universe, Dark Reign.  I honestly never thought I'd say this - I'm a little tired of Brian Michael Bendis on these Avengers titles.  I think he's done a mostly rock solid job with everything he's been doing since the launch of New Avengers but I can't help but want something else.  I want Bendis to go back and work on books like Powers or Alias.  I love his writing when he's doing noir street level stuff and I'm just getting a little tired of Bendis' take on the Marvel universe.  Nothing personal, bro.  It's comics.

One more day true believers.
