The top 3 for Jan. 2nd, 2009
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I was lucky enough to score a Playsation 3 and I got a bunch of blu-rays including Pushing Daisies, which may be my new favorite show. It's incredibly romantic, whimsical, and has a great dark sense of humor that always keeps me laughing. It's a special show which is why it probably got canceled. The great ones always do. NOTE: Comics are coming out on Friday this week due to the holidays. Here's the top 3 for January, 2nd, 2008.

The Goon #31
Written and art by Eric Powell
The Goon is an absolutely gorgeous book to look at. Even if you weren't interested in reading the bizarre and disgustingly funny story arcs The Goon would be an absolute must read on art alone. Luckily, the stories are also really great. I'm not sure if anyone is reading this book because I haven't ever talked to anyone who has ever read an issue, so if you like good comic artwork and you have a dark sense of humor, pick it up. If you like Hellboy, check out The Goon.

Wolverine #70
Written by Mark Millar
Pencils by Steve Mcniven
I sometimes really dislike Mark Millar. I'm not a huge fan of his writing but more than that I dislike how he whores his comic writing to get into Hollywood. When i first started Nit Picket, there was this story circulating (I covered it here!) that he was talking about his vision for a Superman movie he hadn't even written yet that would be the greatest Superman story ever. Annoying. I hated that when Kick-Ass #1 hit the stands it had already been optioned for a film and he had the balls to put, "The greatest comic ever," on the cover. There's just something about Millar that rubs me the wrong way. That aside, "Old Man Logan," is one of the best Wolverine stories I've ever read. It is so much freaking fun. We're shown a beaten down old Wolverine who refuses to fight ever since all the Marvel superheroes were killed in a mysterious battle. It's a lot like Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven and it's a party to see a post-apocalyptic Marvel USA. This arc will make an amazing trade paperback.

Scalped #24
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by R.M. Guera
Scalped is my favorite comic book. I can't think of any other comic that effects me the way Scalped does month after month. Not only is it fantastically written and drawn, but this damn book is rarely delayed and I love Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera for having their shit together so I can get this book as much as possible. Scalped is a gritty true-to-life story about life on an Indian reservation. The casino owner Chief Red Crow is an amazing character and with every issue we're peeling back layers upon layers that make him come to life more and more. I could rave about this book forever, so do me a favor and buy the first trade on Amazon.
One more day true believers.
