Pulitzer Prize-Winner to Write Spider-Man 4

David Lindsay-Abaire who won the Pulitzer Prize last year for his play "Rabbit Hole" is in final negotiations to write Spider-Man 4.  Abaire isn't the first Pulitzer awarded writer to help pen a Spider-Man screenplay.  Michael Chabon (who won his Pulitzer for "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay") helped write what is easily one of the best superhero films ever made, SPIDER-MAN 2.

I think we all deserve another Spider-Man flick.  SPIDER-MAN 3 isn't a terrible movie but it's easily the weakest of the franchise and it feels more like the Fantastic Four movies instead of the well crafted Sam Raimi films we'd known before.  Abaire has a couple screenwriting credits under his belt that aren't comforting (the CG animated film ROBOTS) but I think if we avoid Peter Parker playing jazz piano we'll be great.

If only we could somehow replace Kirsten Dunst...

While it seems like a Pulitzer Prize winner would do something new and interesting, I saw Shrek: The Musical, which he wrote the book and lyrics for, and it was essentially just a transcription of the movie to the stage. So from that I can't imagine he'll do anything much different.

What is even happening with the franchise? Spider-Man 3 just left a bad taste in my mouth, so I haven't really followed anything. Is Tobey Maguire still attached? I remember reading that Jake Gyllenhaal might be taking over...
